I've had a Sirius radio subscription for several years and enjoy it very much. I listen online regularly, at least, until recently. I'm new to ubuntu, and like it a lot, I've ironed out pretty much all my initial problems with it, but this one. My streaming radio doesn't work any more. I can fire it up, put my user name and password and the radio appears, but no sound.

It was fine on Windows and it works fine on my other bedside computer that runs Linux.

Anyone with any advice?

The comment feature doesn't maintain line breaks, so here it is again with some formatting:

Install gxine - via the command line in a "Terminal" window:

$ sudo apt-get install gxine gxineplugin

The sudo command will ask you for your password before proceeding. You may also have to respond to questions from the ensuing apt-get.

Another upside of using xine or gxine, is that it will also play the CBC live streams.

My first response would be what is different between your bedside linux computer and the Ubuntu one? Answering that question may be the answer to your problem?

If not, then this answer from another discussion may help?

Question: I'm running Ubuntu Linux 7.10 with FireFox and all the plugins, however when I run Sirius Online Radio it still says for me to install another plugin. It just won't play the music. Anyone know the solution? I have Java Run Time installed and Flash Player installed but im not sure what else i need to install to have it work properly.

Answer: To get Sirius working install gxine and gxineplugin with synaptic from ubuntu repository. it will open up in a gxine app and you will be able to browse while it is playing. Source(s): http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p

I'd also ask what version of Ubuntu you are using. Prior to the current release (9.10) I found streaming was intermittent at best (at least, since 7.10). However, with 9.10 everything is working for me. In fact, I've just logged in to my Sirius account and was able to listen to it online.

Sorry, delayed reaction, I did try the initial reply, but I found the instructions very confusing and I admit, I gave up quickly.

I'm using Ubuntu Netbook Remix (I think 9.10?).

Ideally I need a Ubuntu expert to come here and deal with all this for me while speaking really slowly and in simple language.

Generally in these question/answer boards, the answers should be answers. The answer above @ CJ should actually be a comment. These Stack Exchange boards work differently than normal forums, as they are answer driven and clean. – nicorellius Jul 7 at 18:51
